Multi-objective Model Checking of Markov Decision Processes

چکیده
We study and provide efficient algorithms for multi-objective model checking problems for Markov Decision Processes (MDPs). Given an MDP, M , and given multiple linear-time (ω-regular or LTL) properties φi, and probabilities ri ∈ [0, 1], i = 1, . . . , k, we ask whether there exists a strategy σ for the controller such that, for all i, the probability that a trajectory of M controlled by σ satisfies φi is at least ri. We provide an algorithm that decides whether there exists such a strategy and if so produces it, and which runs in time polynomial in the size of the MDP. Such a strategy may require the use of both randomization and memory. We also consider more general multi-objective ω-regular queries, which we motivate with an application to assume-guarantee compositional reasoning for probabilistic systems. Note that there can be trade-offs between different properties: satisfying property φ1 with high probability may necessitate satisfying φ2 with low probability. Viewing this as a multi-objective optimization problem, we want information about the “trade-off curve” or Pareto curve for maximizing the probabilities of different properties. We show that one can compute an approximate Pareto curve with respect to a set of ω-regular properties in time polynomial in the size of the MDP. Our quantitative upper bounds use LP methods. We also study qualitative multiobjective model checking problems, and we show that these can be analysed by purely graph-theoretic methods, even though the strategies may still require both randomization and memory. 1998 ACM Subject Classification: G.3, F.2, F.3.1, F.4.1.

Automated Verification and Strategy Synthesis for Probabilistic Systems
Probabilistic model checking is an automated technique to verify whether a probabilistic system, e.g., a distributed network protocol which can exhibit failures, satisfies a temporal logic property, for example, “the minimum probability of the network recovering from a fault in a given time period is above 0.98”. Dually, we can also synthesise, from a model and a property specification, a strat...
متن کاملA Multi Objective Fibonacci Search Based Algorithm for Resource Allocation in PERT Networks
The problem we investigate deals with the optimal assignment of resources to the activities of a stochastic project network. We seek to minimize the expected cost of the project include sum of resource utilization costs and lateness costs. We assume that the work content required by the activities follows an exponential distribution. The decision variables of the model are the allocated resourc...
متن کاملUtilizing Generalized Learning Automata for Finding Optimal Policies in MMDPs
Multi agent Markov decision processes (MMDPs), as the generalization of Markov decision processes to the multi agent case, have long been used for modeling multi agent system and are used as a suitable framework for Multi agent Reinforcement Learning. In this paper, a generalized learning automata based algorithm for finding optimal policies in MMDP is proposed. In the proposed algorithm, MMDP ...
متن کاملMulti-Objective Policy Generation for Mobile Robots under Probabilistic Time-Bounded Guarantees
We present a methodology for the generation of mobile robot controllers which offer probabilistic time-bounded guarantees on successful task completion, whilst also trying to satisfy soft goals. The approach is based on a stochastic model of the robot’s environment and action execution times, a set of soft goals, and a formal task specification in co-safe linear temporal logic, which are analys...
متن کاملXPL: An extended probabilistic logic for probabilistic transition systems
Generalized Probabilistic Logic (GPL) is a temporal logic, based on the modal mu-calculus, for specifying properties of reactive probabilistic systems. GPL is expressive enough that termination of Recursive Markov Chains (RMCs) can be cast as a model checking problem over GPL. In this paper, we explore XPL, an extension to GPL for expressing properties of transition systems with probabilistic a...
